The match between Germany vs Great Britain will take place in Armin-Wolf-Arena (Regensburg) on Saturday, September 17 at 19:00 CEST / 1 p.m. ET / 22:30 IST.
Harry Ford was playing for the Single-A Modesto Nuts less than a week ago as he completed his first full season of professional baseball. The top prospect for the Mariners is now helping to ensure that Great Britain participates in the World Baseball Classic for the first time. The 19-year-old catcher led off for Great Britain in the opening game of the six-team Regensburg Qualifier on Friday. He hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the third inning and reached base five times as Great Britain defeated France 14-4 at Armin-Wolf-Arena.
Ford just finished a season that saw him amass 11 home runs, 65 RBIs, 23 steals, and a slash line of.274/.425/.438 across 104 games for the Nuts, who finished their season on Sunday. Ford, who was chosen with the 12th overall choice in the 2021 MLB Draft, was born in Atlanta and attended North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Georgia. However, due of his ancestry, Ford was permitted to play for Great Britain. Ford was born there, where both of his parents were, making him a dual citizen. Only two teams will advance from the double-elimination Regensburg Qualifier to the competition for the March World Baseball Classic. At 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, host Germany is up next for Great Britain.
