Two players from the US Major League affiliates, two from the Japanese team, Yokohama Bay Stars.
Canberra will go against Sydney in the Australia ABL on November 11 at MIT Narrabundah Ballpark. The Canberra Cavalry has put together a world-class squad for the 2022–2023 Australian Baseball League season, hoping to improve on the performances of the previous four seasons. The Cavalry, runners-up in 2017–18, advanced to the semifinals in both 2018–19 and 2019–20. The Cavalry placed third at the end of the 2020–21 season before COVID–19 forced an early termination. Naturally, COVID-19 caused the 2021/22 season to be canceled. Robbie Perkins is the captain this year, while Keith Ward is the manager. Prior to the season opener on November 10 at the MIT Ball Park Narrabundah versus the Sydney Blue Sox, Cavalry general manager Sunny Singh believes there is real hope.
Sunny said, “We’ve looked at our roster for a good chunk of the off-season. “Over the last several seasons, we’ve been close; now, with our upgrades, we should be able to get over that last obstacle. Two players from the US Major League affiliates, two from the Japanese team, Yokohama Bay Stars, as well as five or six independent players from around the world, have all been signed by the recruitment committee this season. We’ve challenged each other and worked well as a team to ensure the best possible outcome. A few players have also come via Canberra’s development programs, adds Sunny. Sam Kimmorley and Cam Tilly, who have returned after spending time in the American system, as well as the well-liked Cam Warner, are among the returning players. “We’re looking forward to seeing some youthful blood in the team,” says Cam Warner.
