Indian men’s singles player B Sai Praneeth advanced to the second round of the ongoing Thailand Masters on Wednesday. The 30-year-old shuttler got the better of Denmark’s Mads Christophersen in the first round match with a scoreline of 21-13, 21-14. Kiran George also went through to the last-16 stage of the Super 300 tournament, courtesy of defeating Lee Chia-hao of Taiwan 21-17, 19-21, 23-21. The Indian mixed doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Castro also advanced to the next round after eliminating Thailand’s Ratchapol Makkasasithorn and Chasinee Korepa in straight sets 21-17, 21-5. Meanwhile, in the women’s singles category, India’s Ashmita Chaliha defeated compatriot Anupama Upadhyaya in her first-round match by 21-16, 21-19 to advance to the next round.

Shuttler Sumeeth Verma suffered a first round loss to China’s Li Shifeng. The 28-year-old lost with a scoreline of 14-21, 16-21. Indian women’s doubles duo of Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker lost to China’s Liu Shengshu and Zhang Shuxian in the first round by 8-21, 10-21. Mithun Manjunath also crashed out in the first round after losing to Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto 21-18, 21-12. Indian mixed doubles pair of Rohan Kapoor and N Siki Reddy defeated Canada’s Josephine Wu and Ty Alexander Lindeman by 21-11, 21-16, to set up a second round clash with China’s D.P. Huang and Y. Feng.
