The top ranked Indian duo came from behind to secure a 17-21, 22-20, 21-19 victory against China’s Lie Yu Chen and Ou Xuan Yi on Friday.
Indian men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stormed into the semi-finals of Malaysia Open after defeating China’s Lie Yu Chen and Ou Xuan Yi in a hard-fought three-game battle that extended to an hour and six minutes. The top ranked Indian duo came from behind to secure a 17-21, 22-20, 21-19 victory against Chen and Yi. The World no.5 Indian pair will take on the Chinese pair of Liang Wei Kieng and Wang Chang in the last-4 stage on Saturday. Meanwhile, India’s no.1 shuttler HS Pranoy bowed out of the tournament after suffering a quarter-final loss at the hands of Kodai Naraoka of japan. The 30-year-old Kerala-born shuttler lost 16-21, 21-19, 10-21 to Naraoka here at Axiata Arena.

Satwik and Chirag didn’t have a great start, as they went down 17-21 in the opening game, and were close to a straight-game defeat, but the the Commonwealth Games champions showed resilience to win six straight points in the second game and never looked back from thereon. The Indian duo converted their second game point to force the decider. The third game was a one-way traffic as Satwik and Chirag steamrolled their Chinese opponents. Meanwhile, Indonesia pair of Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto will play fifth seeds Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in the other semi-final.
