India’s challenge at Malaysia Open 2022 ended on Friday as PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy bowed out in the quarter-final stage. Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu crashed out of the Malaysia Open Super 750 badminton after losing to nemesia Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in a hard-fought three-game contest. Sindhu, seeded seventh, squandered a game lead to lose 13-21, 21-15, 21-13 to second seed Tai Tzu, a silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics. By virtue of the victory, the Chinese Taipei Shuttler extended her domination over the Indian ace, leading 16-5 on the head-to-head record. Tai Tzu has now won six consecutive victories against the 26-year-old Indian.

Sindu made a slow start and trailed 2-5 in the opening game. But she soon got her act together to pocket 11 points on the trot and went into the break leading 11-7. Although Tai Tzu tried to make a comeback, Sindu maintained the lead and pocketed the opening game. After the change of ends, the Chinese Taipei shuttler came out all guns blazing and moved to 14-3 before Sindhu reduced the deficit to 17-15. Tai Tzu, however, kept her composure to pocket the next four points to draw level in the contest. Meanwhile the decider was a close contest as both shuttlers fought hard for each and every point.  However, Sindhu then struggled to cope with Tai Tzu’s mixed drop shots and smashes and lost the third game and thereby the match.
