Top Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth enter the semi-finals of 2022 Korea Open Super 500 badminton tournament with contrasting victories in the women’s singles and men’s singles event respectively on Thursday. Two time Olympic medalist Sindhu secured her 17th win over Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan 21-10, 21-16 in the women’s singles quarter-finals. Meanwhile Srikanth rode on his power and precision to get the better of Son Wan Ho 21-12, 18-21, 21-12 in a match which lasted just over an hour.

Two time Olympic medalist Sindhu produced a dominant performance to get the better of the Thai player. After trailing 2-5 in the opening set, Sindhu quickly regained control of the proceedings and went on to clinch the first game with ease.
On the other hand, Srikanth had to dig deep to get the better of the Korean. In a battle of former world no one’s, Srikanth displayed great control as he dominated the short rallies to win the first game 18-21. Although Son Wan Ho fought back to win the second game and take it to the decider, Srikanth was alert to change the gears, played attacking game with precision and secured the deciding game with ease.
After the change of side also Sindhu continued her dominance as she held a 8-2 lead and kept moving ahead as the Thai crumbled and the world no 7 sealed the victory.
In the men’s doubles , Indian duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty went down fighting 22-20, 18-21, 22-20 against the South Korean Kang Minhyuk and Seo Seung Jae and were knocked out of the tournament. Nevertheless overall it was a good outing for the Indian pair.
The 2022 Korea Open Super 500 Badminton championship will commence on April 5 and end on April 10.
