2016 Rio Olympics women's singles champion Carolina Marin got the better of China’s Han Yue 21-15, 21-14 in 41 minutes to enter the final of the Super 500 tournament.
Home favourite Jonatan Christie reached the final of the Indonesia Masters Badminton championship as he prevailed 21-13, 15-21, 21-19 in an hour and 13 minutes in the men’s singles semi-final on Saturday. The fourth seed will face fellow Indonesian Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo in the title-decider in Jakarta on Sunday. Wardoyo defeated Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus 17-21, 27-25, 22-20 in the second semi-final. Meanwhile, in the women’s singles section, 2016 Rio Olympics champion Carolina Marin got the better of China’s Han Yue 21-15, 21-14 in 41 minutes to enter the final of the Super 500 tournament. The 29 year-old Spaniard will take on South Korea’s An Se Young in the final. The 20-year-old, who won the Indian Open last week, overcame Wang Zhi Yi of China in the other semi-final of the day.
World No. 3 Christie is set to play his first final, since losing to Lee Zii Jia in the title-decider of the Asian Badminton Championship in May last year. The 25-year-old last won a BWF World Tour title at the Swiss Open in March 2022. Meanwhile women’s singles player Marin is set to contest in her first final of the year. The Spanish left-hander started the match on the back foot as Han moved to a 11-9 lead, and once the Chinese started to miss the lines, Marin showed her class to pocket six back-to-back points. The situation was no different in the second game as the Chinese led 11-8, but the Spaniard won the first four points after the restart to go in front. That soon became nine from 10 points with the three-time world champion going on to secure the match.
