Arshad Nadeem is the reigning Commonwealth Games champion in Javelin Throw. He was born on January 2, 1997, in Mian Channu, Khanewal, Punjab, to a Punjabi family. He is the third oldest of eight siblings. Muhammad Ashraf, his father, was a mason. Arshad was a highly versatile athlete since his elementary school days. He participated in all the sports offered at his school, including football, badminton, cricket, and athletics. However, his favorite sport was cricket, therefore he immediately started participating in tape-ball competitions at the district level. His father, Ashraf, encouraged him to participate in javelin throwing. His father made sure that he consumed milk and ghee to grow into a healthy young man since he didn’t want him to become a mason.

Arshad, a Pakistani native of Mian Channu, excelled in a variety of sports since he was young. Nadeem’s credentials for javelin throwing were discovered during the school athletic competition. He then received spear-throwing instruction from coach Rasheed Ahmad Saqi. Nadeem sought a government position to help his family when he participated in the athletic trials for the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority. Syed Hussian Bukhari, a former national champion and Asian medalist, saw him compete in the trials, and he immediately recognized his potential. Since then, his sheer hard work and perseverance have resulted in him accomplishing what he is today.

Nadeem set a new personal best and a new national record with his performance in the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, as the lone Pakistani competitor. Nadeem established a national record in November 2019 when he threw an 83.65-meter javelin to earn gold for WAPDA in the 33rd National Games in Peshawar. At the 13th South Asian Games in Nepal in December 2019, he captured a gold medal with a throw that set a new Games record of 86.29 meters. He was the first Pakistani track and field athlete to qualify for the Olympics and made his Olympic debut for Pakistan in the 2020 Summer Olympics.
