Ben Shelton is the son of Bryan Shelton, a former professional tennis player and current Florida Gators men’s tennis coach. On February 6, 2023, Shelton attained his highest ATP singles ranking of No. 41. Shelton advanced to the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open after defeating Zhang Zhizhen, Nicolás Jarry, and Alexei Popyrin. After the 2022 US Open, this was Shelton’s second Grand Slam. He then overcame fellow countryman J. J. Wolf to advance to a Major quarterfinal for the first time in his career. Ben lost to fellow American Tommy Paul in four sets to end his winning streak. As a result, he climbed 45 spots into the top 50, reaching world No. 44 for the first time in his career.

Shelton committed to play collegiate tennis for the Florida Gators in June 2020 on Father’s Day, under the guidance of his father, Coach Bryan Shelton. Shelton, a finance major, assisted in guiding the Gators to their first national title. He excelled in 2022 during his sophomore year, going 37-5 in singles matches and defeating August Holmgren to win the NCAA Singles Championship.
