A few months back, hardly anyone would have been aware of Indian triple jumper Eldhose Paul. But within a time of a few months he has appeared as a force to reckon with in both Indian and world athletics.

The triple jump comes under the category of a track and field event. It has other names like step, hop, skips, and jump. In this event, the athlete performs a step, a bound, and then a jump on the sandy land. The athlete who jumps the longest distance in the sand wins the competition. The event is all about gathering the pace and the momentum during the hop and step and then converting all of it into the jump. In this article, we will look at the top three best triple jumpers of all India.

Eldhose Paul

A few months back, hardly anyone would have been aware of Indian triple jumper Eldhose Paul. But within a time of a few months, he has appeared as a force to reckon with in both Indian and world athletics. Eldhose Paul is the first Indian to qualify for the triple jump final at the World Championships with a performance of 16.68m in Eugene, Oregon. He was in sixth position in the Group A qualification round and 12 position overall to cut Sunday’s final.

On 8th August 2022, Eldhose Paul won India’s first gold medal in the men’s triple jump event at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Eldhose Paul was born on November 7, 1996, in Kolenchery Kerala. He was employed with the Indian Navy. He represents Services in domestic completions. M Harikrishnan was his trainer at the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Bengaluru.

Abdulla Aboobacker

Abdulla Aboobacker was nominated for the Manorama Sports Star Award 2022 and is the epitome of resilience. He has fought back from injuries during his 11-year sporting career. He was sidelined for several years due to his multiple injuries, but even the has fought back. Abdulla was the winner the of Indian Grand Prix held in Bhubaneswar by covering 17.19m and securing gold. Abdulla Aboobacker’s performance was the best performance by an Indian triple jumper after Renjith Maheswary’s performance which was 17.3m. He was also the silver medalist in the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a result of 17.02 m.

Abdulla Aboobacker was born on 17th January 1996 in Kerala. He did school at Vanimal MUP School and Kallady School. He was very much fascinated by sports and athletics. In 2015, Abdulla was the national junior champion, but it was when he started challenging the injuries. While in 2017, he was offered a job under the sports quota by the Indian Air Force.

Praveen Chithravel

From training at the warm and cozy IIS facilities in Bellary, Karnataka to competing in Nur Sultan, Kazakhstan at the Asian Indoor Championships itself was half the battle won for triple jumper Praveen Chithravel. Chithravel made a comeback with a silver, which was his first big international medal, with an effort of 16.98m.  While competing in the 2022 Commonwealth Games he finished fourth with a best of 16.89 He has spent most of his time in Southern India.

Cuban Yoandri Betanzos the two-time world championship medalist is Chithravel’s coach, and he has been training for over a year at JSW’s IIS facilities in Bellary. Betanzos approach is working well for Chithravel, who has added zing to his technique since the Cuban’s arrival.
