Nina Kennedy is an Australian track and field athlete who represents the country in pole vault. She is the reigning champion of the Commonwealth Games and Diamond League 2022. Alongside injuries which affected her 2019 season majorly, she also struggled with mental health issues. According to her, her mental health was the toughest obstacle she faced both on the field and off it. There were times when her physical condition was so bad that she was unable to finish or even begin any of her training sessions. Her closest friends, her family, her coach Paul Burgess, and her training partners have been her main inspirations and supporters.

Nina was born in Busselton, three hours south of Perth. She attended the elementary school in Perth, where she joined her first club, Perry Lakes Little Athletics, at the age of 11, since she enjoyed athletics day in primary school. She began pole vaulting a year later, at the age of twelve, after a pole vault coach saw her potential during an athletics tournament. Nina Kennedy finished second in the senior Australian pole vault championships in 2012 at the age of fourteen with a personal best of 4.10m. In 2013, she made progress, establishing a personal best of 4.31m and finishing fifth at the IAAF World Youth or U18 Championships. She vaulted a personal best 4.40m at the 2014 IAAF World Juniors, placing fourth just short of a medal.

She qualified for the IAAF world championships in London in March 2017, but she withdrew less than two weeks before the competition because of a quad injury. Kennedy was at her best in 2018 three years after her outstanding season in 2015. She initially improved her personal best to 4.60m. A week later, with a vault of 4.71m, she climbed to third place among Australians all-time. She overcame Olympic bronze medallist Eliza McCartney of New Zealand by vaulting an excellent 4.60m at the national championships. She also won a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. Since she was injured six weeks before the Games, she only participated in two vault sessions, an accomplishment she considers to be her finest in her athletic career.
