After Coleman filed an appeal, the Court of Arbitration for Sport later reduced his suspension to 18 months. After the decision, the American sprinter experienced a variety of emotions before finding serenity.

The athlete stated that when inspectors showed up at his residence in December 2019 he was out Christmas shopping, but that he had returned during the allotted 60 minutes for testing. Coleman also told investigators that he witnessed the start of an American football game at 8.15 p.m., claiming that a doping control officer must have clocked out early. The panel, however, vehemently rejected this argument and issued a ban on him until May 13, 2022. Additionally, he was informed that if his story were accurate, he ought to have noticed the two doping control inspectors posted outside his home. The tribunal rejected his appeal and criticized his attitude towards his duty by calling him reckless.

Coleman also criticized the examiners for not calling him while he was out shopping to find out where he was. The tribunal, however, concluded that the testers were under no obligation to do so because they repeatedly tapped on his door instead.  The panel acknowledged being surprised that he had not used his experience to learn to be far more cautious in the future. A year ago before this incident, he was narrowly exempted from getting banned. After he appealed again, his suspension was lowered from April 16, 2020, and ended on November 13, 2021.
