In the Indian Grand Prix 2023 held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Hima Das grabbed gold in the 200 m race by completing it in 23.79 seconds. Even though she secured the first position and won the gold medal she was unable to qualify for the upcoming Asian Games 2023. She completed the race in 23.79 seconds but was 0.36 seconds short of the qualification standard for Asian Games 2023.

Whereas in the long jump, Ancy Sojan secured the first position with a jump of 6.49 m. With this jump, she qualified for the Asian games whose qualifying mark was 6.45 m. Asian championship 2023 will be hosted by China in Hangzhou in September. Only two players competed in the men’s triple jump and women’s high jump. Many athletes did not take part in Indian Grand Prix 2023. In the same way, only three players participated in the shot put.

How did the others athletes do?

Krishan Kumar, who is from Haryana, was the table topper in the men’s 800 m race category. The man from Army also qualified for the Asian games 2023 by passing the qualification standard which was 1:49.05. Krishan Kumar clocked 1:47.26. This mark was his second-best. Uttar Pradesh’s Abhishek Pal, Gulveer Singh, and Mohammed Nur Hasan clocked 13:51.14, 13:51.88, and 13:52.26 respectively in the men’s 5000m race. The qualifying mark for the men’s 5000 m race for the Asian championship 2023 was 14:00.00.

Javelin thrower Kishore Kumar from Odisha achieved his best of 81.05 m. He braked his previous record of 78.93 m, meanwhile, DP Manu passed 80m twice and secured the second position. They both qualified for the Asian games in 2023. A total of 18 events were held in the first Grand Prix. 10 for men and eight for women. The second Indian Grand Prix 2023 will be hosted in Thiruvananthapuram on 27th March. Whereas the third and fourth will be held on April 2 and April 10, respectively, in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
