Tokyo Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra is a countrywide sensation after his heroics at the men’s javelin event last year in Japan. The second throw measuring 87.58m handed him the gold medal also becoming the first Indian track and field athlete to win a medal at the Olympics. Since then, he has become only the second individual to win an Olympic Gold after shooter Abhinav BIndra.
The 24-year old star continued his splendid form to claim India’s best result at the recently-concluded World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States, winning a Silver. Defending world champion, Anderson Peters of Grenada, made hard work to deny Chopra of the gold medal. The Indian Army Subedar from Haryana even holds the National record, with an aim to reach the 90-metre mark. He also claimed a Gold at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The youngster has already shown the world that he is only getting started, with a lot more silverware expected as he enters the prime years of his career. At 24, he is only improving with time and is sure to put India on the world map in the field of athletics.
