Istanbul Marathon 2022, World Athletics Elite Label Road Race: LIVE Streaming, When and Where to Watch, Schedule

On November 6, 2022, the Istanbul Marathon 2022 will take place, with over 60,000 runners expected to race from the Asian to European side. The competition will be held for the 44th time this year. The Istanbul Marathon is conducted by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Spor Istanbul and it is sponsored by N Kolay Payment Institution, an Aktif Investment Bank subsidiary.

The 42-kilometer marathon will come to an end at Fatih’s iconic Sultanahmet Square, while the 15-kilometer stage will finish in the Yenikapı neighbourhood. The 8-kilometer race will begin in the Asian area of Altunizade and end in the European district of Dolmabahçe. Around 30,000 athletes will compete in the race, which is the world’s only intercontinental marathon, in the 15-kilometer and 42-kilometer phases, while another 30,000 people are scheduled to participate in the 8-kilometer public run.

A group of German visitors took the initiative to carry out the concept of running from Asia to Europe, which was first proposed by the Tercüman Newspaper in 1973. With rising participation year after year, the Istanbul Marathon grew to its current size after being staged under the supervision of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. Originally known as the Asia-Europe Run, the marathon’s name was eventually changed to Intercontinental Eurasia Marathon. The marathon’s name was changed to Istanbul Marathon in 2013, to highlight the city and bring its identity to the forefront, like with all marathons throughout the world.
