Long jumper Murali Sreeshankar will participate at the Monaco Diamond League as the sole Indian participant. Sreeshankar, recently created history becoming the first Indian to win a long jump medal at the Commonwealth Games in 44 years, will be in action at the Wanda Diamond League in Monaco on Wednesday. The 23-year-old from Kerala finished second to win his first ever Silver at the event.
Sreeshankar will face tough competition from Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou, whose personal best of 8.60 leads the line while also displaying consistent performances along the way. Tentoglou is also the World No.1, followed by World No 2 Thobias Montler, who is the other contender with a best of 8.27m and will be back in action. The LIVE action will be broadcast on Sports18 1 SD and HD on Wednesday, 10th August, 11:30 pm IST onwards, which will take place at the Stade Louis II stadium in the Fontvieille district of Monaco on August 10, 2022 (Wednesday).
“The Athletics Federation of India had challenged the decision (regarding the fourth jump). Sreeshankar’s father and a top AFI official went to see the video referee and other officials were there. But they (AFI officials) were fully satisfied that the jump was a foul,” a source told PTI. This was in the aftermath of Sreeshankar’s final attempt of 8.08 metre getting disqualified.
