India has amassed a total of 61 medals, consisting of 22 gold, 16 silver, and 23 bronze in Birmingham 2022. The country stands at the fourth position in the medal standings. India surpassed New Zealand and South Africa in medal standings despite missing out on big names like Neeraj Chopra, Saina Nehwal, and Mary Kom.

In the absence of Shooting, Wrestling (12) and Weightlifting (10) carried the hopes of billions as India emerged as the best nation in both disciplines. Mirabai Chanu, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, and Bajrang Punia continued their dominance in the international arena by clinching the Gold for India. While the biggest surprise for the nation in this edition turned out to be Athletics. India (8) finished in the 12th position in overall Athletics medal standings, with one gold, four silver, and three bronze.

1) Weightlifting:
Mirabai Chanu, Jeremy Lalrinnunga, and Achinta Sheuli clinched the Gold for India, setting new Games records. Olympic silver medallist Mirabai lifted a combined 201 kg lift (88+113) in women’s 49 kg. The second best-lifter Roilya Ranaivosoa (172 kg) was 29 kgs behind her. This was her second gold and third medal at the games, having won the silver in Glasgow and gold in Gold Coast. Youth Olympic champion Jeremy, with a grand lift of 300 kg, won his first CWG medal in 67kg. Two-time Commonwealth championships gold medallist Achinta created the CWG record with a 313kg lift (143+170).

2) Wrestling:
India accomplished its best performance at the CWG 2022 in wrestling, winning medals in 12/12 competitions. With this, the nation successfully replicated its Gold coast performance in Birmingham 2022. Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Bajrang Punia, Naveen Malik, Deepak Punia, Vinesh Phogat, and Sakshi Malik claimed gold in the competition.

3) Athletics:
India earned its first-ever medal in men’s 3000m steeplechase and women’s 10 km race walk. Avinash Sable became the first non-Kenyan athlete to secure a podium finish since the 1998 CWG by winning silver. Priyanka Goswami won the first silver in the 10,000m race walk, attaining a PB of 43:38.82. Murali Sreeshankar clinched India’s first silver in the men’s long jump with a huge jump of 8.08 m. Tejaswin Shankar claimed the first medal for India in the high jump in the CWG.

4) Boxing:
India finished second to Northern Island by securing seven medals in the CWG 2022. Nikhat Zareen, Amit Panghal, and Nitu Ghanghas were the gold medallists for India. Reigning world champion Nikhat added a CWG gold medal under her belt by beating Carly McNaul in a unanimous verdict. Amit made a stunning comeback to the international circuit and upgraded his silver to gold medal triumph in Birmingham. The two-time youth champion Nitu Ghanghas grabbed a Gold on her maiden commonwealth games appearance in minimum weight.

5) Lawn Bowls
India scripted history by winning the first-ever medal in Lawn Bowls in the form of Gold. The Women’s Fours team of Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia & Rupa Rani defeated South Africa by 17-10. Later, the men’s fours quartet of Sunil Bahadur, Navneet Singh, Chandan Singh & Dinesh Kumar won the Silver for the country.

6) Badminton:

India topped the Badminton standings with three gold, one silver, and one bronze in the Commonwealth Games 2022. On the last day of the games, PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen and Satwiksairaj/Chirag Shetty clinched the gold medals for the country. With this, India ended their CWG campaign on a high.
