Sprinter Hima Das will represent India in the 4X100m relay event in the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Sprinter and young prodigy Hima Das will be making her comeback to the international circuit as she is all set to represent India in the 4X100m relay event in the Commonwealth Games 2022. Hima will have the services of ace sprinter Dutee Chand in this event. Hima became the first Indian athlete to win a Gold medal in the Women’s 400m event at the IAAF World U-20 Championships held in Finland. She clocked a timing of 50.79 secs in the 400 metres event at the Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, creating a new national record in the discipline. She ran her personal best of 51.32 secs in the 400 m final to finish 6th at the Commonwealth Games 2018.
Hima, who shot to instant stardom after winning five back-to-back Gold medals within a month in July 2019, narrowly missed out on a Tokyo Olympics berth after sustaining a hamstring injury in the National Inter-State Athletics Championships. Another major setback that she received was when she faced a near-death experience because of Covid-19. However, the ‘Dhing Express’ came back stronger to showcase her dominance at the national level by clinching a Gold medal in the 100m event at 61st National Inter-state Athletics Championship in 2022.
