Sharath Kamal and Sreeja Akula advanced to the semi-final of the mixed doubles in the Commonwealth Games 2022. The Indian pair shocked home favorites Liam Pitchford and Tin-tin Ho in a nail-biter to move to the semis. It was a neck-a-neck battle between the CWG medallist English pair and the Indian duo, but the latter secured the victory by 3-2. The scorecard read 11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 11-13, and 11-9 in the favour of the Indians. Earlier in the day, the duo reached the quarters by defeating Malaysia’s Leond Chee Fang and Ho Ying by 3-1. The Indian pair will next face Minhyung Jee and Nicholas Lum of Australia in the Semi-final match. The duo is just a step away from ensuring a medal for India in mixed doubles.

Defending champion Manika Batra crashed out of the women’s singles after losing to Singapore’s Jian Zeng by 4-0. Earlier in the day, World no. 06 pair of Manika and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran suffered a 3-2 loss in a close contest in the mixed doubles QF. However, Sreeja had a great outing today as she defeated World no 49 Mo Zhang by 4-3 and entered the semis.
