Monterrey will take on Algodoneros in the LMP Mexico match on December 6. According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, right-hander Julio Teheran signed with the Padres on Sunday. The 11-year major league veteran signed with San Diego for minors. But Heyman has reported that the deal could bring Tehran up to $6 million if it’s a huge hit in 2023. A long-time start with the Atlanta Braves, Tehran hasn’t entered the major leagues or with a minor affiliated team in 2022. Instead, the 31-year-old started his year with the Atlantic League’s Staten Island FerryHawkes, an MLB’s partner league. . Tehran played well for a brief stint in New York, scoring an ERA of 1.60 in six games before his contract was bought by Toros de Tijuana of the Mexican League. Torros liberated Tehran after six more games before joining another Mexican League side, Sultanes de Monterrey. Tehran started 14 matches between the three clubs in 2022, reaching a total of 3.57 ERA in 68 innings while hitting 56 and going 10.
A native of Colombia, Tehran made his MLB debut with the Braves in 2011 when he was just 20 years old and is considered one of baseball’s hottest pitching prospects. He stayed in Atlanta throughout the 2019 season and was named an All-Star in 2014 and 2016. Tehran signed a six-year, $32.4 million contract extension with the Braves in 2014. Despite some success, Tehran never quite lived up to the expectations the top prospect lists imposed on him in his youth. His 9 years of running in Atlanta culminated in a 77-73 and 3.67 ERA in 1,360 frames. He added a 10.50 ERA in four knockouts. Tehran had 10 games against the Los Angeles Angels in 2020, scoring a 10.05 ERA in 31.1 innings. He appeared in a game for the Detroit Tigers in 2021, allowing the run to earn for five innings starting before stopping because of a shoulder injury. Now, Tehran is back in the National League and trying to beat the Padres pitchers that lost to Mike Clevinger to the White Sox on Sunday.
