Two mystery opponents faced Samoa Joe and Britt Baker in this week’s AEW Dynamite results. Aside from that, Jeff Hardy competed against Adam Cole in a one-of-a-kind encounter. Ahead of their championship fight at Double or Nothing, AEW world champion Hangman Page tried to send a loud and clear message to CM Punk, while Chris Jericho and William Regal faced off after the latter laid down The Demo God a week earlier.

Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Quarterfinal: Samoa Joe vs. Joker

At the opening of this week’s programme, AEW fans learned who the Joker was on the men’s side of the Owen Hart Foundation tournament, as Johnny Elite (previously WWE’s John Morrison) battled Ring of Honor Television champion Samoa Joe in the first of two quarterfinal round matchups. Joe controlled early on, but Elite’s late comeback had the crowd chomping at the bit for every near-fall. Elite had a two-count after a 450 splash, but a Starship Pain miss placed him back-first on Joe’s knees. Elite was defeated with a Muscle Buster by the Samoan Submission Machine.

Winner: Samoa Joe

Hangman Page vs. Konosuke Takeshita

As his Double or Nothing opponent, AEW world champion Hangman Page, wrestled Japan’s Konosuke Takeshita in a non-title match, CM Punk joined Tony Schiavone, Excalibur, and Jim Ross on commentary. Takeshita’s comeback was launched by a big leaping clothesline and a Blue Thunder Bomb. Page used a Tombstone to temporarily stun Takeshita, but Takeshita countered with the Last Ride powerbomb a minute later. Page delivered the Buckshot Lariat, followed by the Go To Sleep for the pinfall victory, capping up a frenzy of action.

Winner: Hangman Page

Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland vs. The Workhorsemen

Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee battled JD Drake and Anthony Henry of The Workhorsemen in an unannounced match. With Fall From Glory, Strickland and Lee cruised to victory, knocking Henry down. The victors’ post-match promo was stopped by Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs, who were then interrupted by AEW tag team champions Jurassic Express. On behalf of Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus, Christian Cage challenged the teams to a three-way dance match at Double or Nothing. He also announced a triple threat match between Jungle Boy, Strickland, and Starks for next week’s event.

Winner: Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland

MJF lashes Wardlow

Wardlow had to undergo 10 lashings with a belt by MJF, who was escorted to the ring by Shawn Spears, in order to get his hands on him at Double or Nothing. He did, scarcely responding to the first eight until being hit in the neck and shoulder by the ninth. The Salt of the Earth caught him with a low blow before adding six or seven more lashes before the tenth. The War Dog was knocked out by a shot to the head with the Dynamite Diamond Ring and the C-4 by Spears, who was booed by the Houston spectators.

Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Quarterfinal: Rey Fenix vs. Kyle O’Reilly

O’Reilly, being one of the best in-ring tacticians, dismantled Fenix’s left arm, removing a piece of his opponent’s armament in the process. To stay in the contest, Fenix unleashed his aerial arsenal and rolled up O’Reilly for a fantastic near-fall. Late in the match, Fenix attempted a cutter, but O’Reilly reversed and made Fenix submit out to the cross armbar for the victory.

Winner: Kyle O’Reilly

After the match William Regal and Chris Jericho came face to face. After the latter knocked down The Demo God with a punch a week earlier, Chris Jericho and William Regal, who have been enemies for well over two decades, had a verbal altercation. Regal, Jon Moxley, and Eddie Kingston were all attacked by Jericho. He claimed credit for Santana and Ortiz while dismissing Bryan Danielson as a geek. Jericho attempted to challenge the babyfaces to a Stadium Stampede match, but Moxley refused and issued the challenge for an Anything Goes match between Jericho Appreciation Society and the team of Blackpool Combat Club, Santana, Ortiz, and Kingston.

Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament Quarterfinal: Britt Baker vs. Maki Itoh

Maki Itoh of Japan returned to AEW on Wednesday as the Joker versus Dr. Britt Baker DMD in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament quarterfinal. Baker defeated her former tag team partner, but discovered the hard way that Itoh has an exceptionally hard skull, prompting Baker to make a comeback. To proceed to the semifinals and a match against Toni Storm, the former AEW women’s champion endured her opponent’s attack and tapped her out with the Lockjaw.

Winner: Britt Baker

After match, Serena Deeb called out Tony Schiavone and Dustin Rhodes for insisting she couldn’t beat Thunder Rosa at Double or Nothing. Rosa entered the ring after a caustic promo, only to be knocked out with the women’s championship as Deeb gained some momentum in a brief but effective part.

Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Quarterfinal: Adam Cole vs. Jeff Hardy

In the main event, Adam Cole defeated Jeff Hardy in a sprint match to go to the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament. Cole maintained control until the evening’s last commercial break, but Hardy fought back down the stretch. Cole blasted The Charismatic Enigma with the Boom for the pinfall victory after a failed Swanton Bomb. The Hardy Boyz were attacked by The Young Bucks and Adam Cole after the bout, but Sting and Darby Allin came out to level the odds. The reDRagon assaulted Allin, but The Icon defeated them both by himself. The Young Bucks were able to regroup and hit a double Superkick on Sting as a result.

Winner: Adam Cole
